Depoe Bay

I took today off, so we decided to take a trip to the coast! We visited Depoe Bay to go whale watching. The last time we were there, we saw quite a few whales. We were able to hang out on the rocks and just watch the whales, which were feeding very close to the cliffs, for hours. It was amazing getting to see them up close! This time, the water was very choppy/turbulent so the whales were too far out to see. We still had a great time exploring the cliffs and checking out the tiny little main street. I also got to practice using my new camera and experiment with different shots. The one of Ben (below) is one of my favorites from today.

Have a fabulous weekend!

  7. Such great pics! I've always wanted to go whale watching! I didn't know you could see them from the coast without going out in a boat. Do you know how long the whale-watching season lasts? We went to Astoria last summer for the Goonies reunion and were thinking of going back this summer because we loved it so much--looks like Depoe Bay would be an easy side-trip.

  15. Wow! Gorgeous! The Ocean looks looks mighty and intimidating. I hope Ben was keeping a healthy distance from the cliff edge. A very inspiring photo.

I also noted that the opposite shore is shaped like an alligator with it's nose into the water. Do you see that too?

  18. Thanks so much ladies! I really appreciate all of the feedback, encouragement, and sweet comments!!!!

Terrie - You should definitely check out Depoe Bay if you can. I've heard that Oct/Nov and Mar/Apr are the best times to go. The first time we went, we actually did go out on a boat. It was fun, but I really prefer to watch them from the cliffs. We were much closer to them when we were on the cliffs and we could pretty much see their whole bodies! It was amazing. The boats are not allowed to get close to them, plus I got a bit sea sick on the boat.

Laura - I did not notice that before, but yes, it does look like an alligator! How funny!

Sweet Laundry - Thanks so much for stopping by:)
