Fluttering Flora

I hope your weekend is going well!  Mine has been nice.  We recently made a list of a few (well, more than a few) household things we need to take care of before baby gets here.  Instead of waiting until the last minute, we are trying to accomplish little bits here and there.  As we clean out our spare bedroom, which is currently home to Ben's musical equipment, records, clothes, and transformer collection (hope our little guy likes transformers because we seriously have hundreds of them), we are discovering that we need more storage space in our tiny house.  Yesterday Ben scored big time on Craigslist.  He found a huge, solid wood, vintage bookcase for our living room for $50.  It is wonderful!  It has a couple of drawers, enclosed shelves, open shelves, and even a little pull down desk area.  We have been rearranging, cleaning out our book collection, making trips to goodwill, and just generally trying to get things sorted out.  I feel like we are at least making some progress!  Yesterday also included lunch out and a trip to Salt & Straw ice cream, so it wasn't all work:)

I found this dress on ebay for $20!  I remember reading on Consume or Consumed that this dress is pregnancy friendly (here), so I thought I would give it a try.  It is so comfy!  I think it will definitely work well for a little bit longer, but I don't think I will be wearing it quite as long as Jess did because I'm tall and as my belly grows, I can see this dress becoming too short fairly quickly.  Also - yes, I'm wearing tights in August.  I know it seems crazy, but it was a cloudy, cool day.  Plus, I think these lavender tights are kind of summery, no?

It's a..........

A couple of weeks ago we had a BBQ/sex reveal party.  Instead of having my midwife tell me the sex over the phone, I forced myself to wait (it was tough!), so that Ben and I could find out together, along with some of our closest friends.

One of my friends owns a coffee shop and her mom is the pastry chef there.  She had her mom call my midwife to find out the sex and then she made the cake for us (which of course either had blue or pink icing on the inside to indicate boy or girl).  So no one at the party knew the sex ahead of time.  We all gathered, talked, mingled, ate, and stared at the cake.  The anticipation was too much!  Finally, as we were waiting on some people to finish eating, we set a timer and let everyone know that we would cut the cake as soon as the timer went off, no matter what!  That forced people to pick up the pace and we got the BBQ/eating over with:)

As soon as the timer went off, we asked everyone to make a guess.  Almost everyone at the party guessed girl.  I think there were only 2 people (including Ben) that guessed boy.  Ben and I each got a knife and cut into the cake at the same time.  I was so nervous and excited!  I'll let the pictures do the talking from here.

Yep, we are having a boy!  We are over the moon excited!!!!

Here is my outfit from that day:

One more

Here we go with one more wedding post (see the dessert bar here and our outfits here)! This post is definitely a picture overload, but I can't help it! I want to show you guys everything:)

Drinking Jars (Mason jars, homemade name tags, straws via Etsy)

We had a cocktail hour before the ceremony so we had these lovely cheeses out for everyone to munch on (you can't really see any of them in this photo, but the plates are all vintage. Each one is different, but oh so pretty. Most of them came from an antique store near my house).

His and Hers cocktails
Ben and I each chose one of our favorite cocktails to share at the wedding/party. Mine was the French Martini (vodka, chambord, and pineapple juice). Ben chose the Sazerac. We served these cocktails (instead of a full bar), wine, and beer. The signature drinks were a huge hit (and if you haven't already, you need to try a French Martini)!

Beautiful flowers Ben's mom put together just before the wedding.

We found these gorgeous dried flowers at a farmer's market the day before the wedding. We used milk jars that belonged to Ben's grandfather instead of vases and put them on all of the tables.

Polaroid fun!

Gift/card table (vintage suitcase via Etsy)

We hung pictures of Ben and I above the fireplace (some of our engagement photos and a few baby pictures too:).

Decorations - Poms via Etsy (here), mason jar lanterns homemade by Ben's sister

Close up of the lanterns. I love them! Once it got dark, they were so pretty hanging all around the tent and pavilion. Definitely one of my favorite things from the wedding.

The End
