Treasure Hunt

Today, Ben and I explored some vintage shops here in Portland. We had a great time strolling through the neighborhoods, searching for old treasures. A few of my favorite shops were Billy Goat Vintage (thanks for the recommendation Kjrsten and Anna!), Xtabay vintage, and AlexSandras Vintage Emporium. I found an adorable black and white polka dot dress, and a yellow and white polka dot silk scarf. Also, Ben bought me the most beautiful vintage bee brooch. I'm sure they will all be making appearances here on the blog sometime very soon.

  1. Oh fun, can't wait to see 'em (sounds like a good mix actually, black and white with yellow polka dots and a bee pin...!)

    Love your handbag!!

  3. Oh, I am looking forward to seeing the Bee Brooch. Sounds like you all had fun! We are starting Fiesta. I am going to be posting about it soon. Your Polka dress sounds nice, can't wait to see it.And you look so cute in your Lost in time skirt. Have a Great Sunday :)

  4. I love "vintaging"! I'm a sucker for old jewelry, but around these parts there isn't much for fun fashion finds (although my grandma's closet was fun for those). You look fantastic, that skirt is adorable, I love how you paired it with such a lovely top! I'm also mildly jealous about your blooming background, all our snow just melted so no signs of spring life yet.

  5. I know where you went today! Love those shops myself. And I kinda wanted to steal your shoes. LOVE!

  6. I love the skirt, cool clocks! Your glasses are cute too, and those purple flowers, ahhh, I miss Oregon. I bought an awesome black and white dress at Xtabay during high school for my winter dance in McMinnville, it was amazing... but yes, definitely check out House of Vintage on Hawthorne, it's so huge and fun to explore! Also Magpie on 10th and Washington (i Think) by the food carts on 10th and Alder downtown is one of my favorites!

    Cheers!

  7. I wish I had better vintage shops in this little town. Although I have had some good luck recently on the thrift and second-hand stores.

I can't wait to see your purchases. And as always the background for the picture is beautiful and offers a good contrast to show your lovely outfit.

  8. I can't wait to see your little bee brooch! My mom bought me a vintage owl brooch and it fell of my coat and I lost it :( I get so frustrated with myself when stuff like that happens. Anyway, you look great in your Lost Time skirt and tee!

  9. I love how you took the time to unearth a beautiful printed sheet of paper for your hand written tag answers. I'm ashamed to say that I was too lazy.

Ben must be a Rare Gem among Common Stones. I can almost imagine what that Polka Dot dress, scarf and Bee Brooch Outfit will look like.

Big round of applause! You couldn't have worn a more perfect piece than Anthro's Lost Time Skirt, to brouse about Vintage Shops filled with timeless treasures.

Since Bee's are obviously at the top of you Things To Love List, do you collect Bee Art and Jewelry?

  11. Ooh! Can't wait to see the bee brooch! Sounds lovely. And I'm a sucker for anything polka-dotted, so I vote excellent buys on those already, sight unseen! What a fun way to spend your weekend day.

  12. Sarah - I didn't really think about it, but all of the pieces may actually work together. Hmmmmm, let me see what I can come up with!

Loraine - Thanks! I will feature the bee very soon. Yes, he is a sweetie:)

Gabby - Yes, it was a fun day! Fiesta sounds fun as well. I will wear my polka dot dress soon - I just need to find a red or yellow belt to go with it.

Steph - Thanks! I like your word, "vintaging"! It was a fun day:) Unfortunately, my grandmother threw out a lot of her old stuff, but I have found a few great items at her house. I hope spring arrives at your house soon!

Andriea - Thank you:) It was my first time going to a few of the shops. Let me know if you have any recommendations!

Megan - Thanks! I will definitely try the places you mentioned. Xtabay had some of the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen.

Sil - I feel lucky that Portland has so many really great vintage shops! Thank you:) Ben was riding his bike home recently and rode past this gorgeous wall of flowers, so this location was his idea.

Carly - Thanks! Bummer about your owl brooch. It is so disappointing when stuff like that happens. One of the places we went yesterday had a whole case full of vintage "bug" brooches (bees, flys, owls, ladybugs, spiders, etc.). I saw so many cool pieces!

Laura - Thank you! Ben is a pretty great guy:) I can't wait to show off my purchases. Yes, I do collect bee everything!

Jess - It was a great day! You will see my new bee very soon:)

Molly - I'm glad to get your vote of approval! Wait until you actually see the dress - you will love it! I need to find a red belt to pair with it.

  16. Oh, I love Billy Goat Vintage. We always stop in there when we go to Last Thursday. I got the most fabulous banana print dress there last time.

I haven't been to the other two shops, I don't think. I'll have to make a trip.

I can't wait to see your bee brooch!

  17. I love vintage shopping! You're lucky to have so many shops to choose from. There are only three or so nice vintage shops (that I'm aware of anyway...) here in Pittsburgh. I'm looking forward to seeing your finds, especially the bee brooch; that sounds lovely. :)
