Quick OOTD and my new Kindle

I hope you all have enjoyed the weekend. Guess what I won? I new kindle!!!! I am so excited! I have wanted one for quite some time, but never got around to getting one. When I flew to Colorado a couple of weeks ago, I took along the book I was reading, which is a 600 pg hardcover, and I quickly realized just how nice it would be to have some kind of reader. Sil from Compiling my Closet recently posted about her boyfriends new website, Niqbid. The idea is that he places an item up for auction and the bidder with the lowest unique bid wins (and then he hopes to recoup the costs, plus maybe make some money by advertising on the site). Interesting, right? So, I placed my bid (0.27 cents) and ended up winning! I was so excited when I got the email and even more excited when the kindle showed up on my doorstep (straight from Amazon) 2 days later!!! I have been learning how to use it and reading all weekend! Let me know if you have any good book recommendations, or any kindle cover/case recommendations.

This is my OOTD from today. I spent most of the day hanging out at home, just relaxing and getting a few things done. Ben and I went out for a late lunch/early dinner at Miss Delta. They have some of the best southern comfort food around. Our meal included lots of sweet tea, fried okra, and collard greens. It was delicious!

Top: Anthropologie
Jeans: Joe's via Anthropologie
Shoes: Indigo by Clarks Plover (I just picked these up a few weeks ago - they are super comfortable and are on sale at 6pm for $39.60. I really like the red color too.)

The sunset last night was gorgeous. Aren't the colors just lovely?

  5. What a cool concept. I am going to check out that site! As a teacher, I read a lot of young adult books that my students may be interested in. What's next on my reading list is The Hunger Games. I've heard it's very good!

  10. Fab sunset! I love fried okra too! And no way on the new kindle. For .27 cents. Damn! What a steal! I'm new to kindle too and love it. I used to be old fashioned, I always wanted to hold an actual book, feel the paper etc, but the Kindle is so practical for traveling. and the nice thing is, the screen is glare free.
    cute outfit! =)

  12. Congrats on the win! The best book I've read in a while is The Road by Cormac McCarthy. If you like historical non-fiction, I would also recommend The Devil in the White City. Trendy, I know, but a great read.

  15. Lisa - I agree with you about being able to hold an actual book, but the kindle is just perfect for traveling. Mmmmmmm, fried okra! We added some spicy vinegar and it was perfect.

    Kelly - Thank you!

  16. That is such a pretty shirt!! Congrats on winning the kindle, that's awesome! I personally have been avoiding them, I love real books. And I know everyone says they look just like pages, but when I've tried snooping other people's kindles on the train, I still find they strain my eyes. How do you like the screen so far?

  17. I saw that Liz recommended the Hunger Games and I have to second that recommendation! I read all 3 in the trilogy and they are terrific books, even for adults :) You look so fresh and pretty in that colourful top. And yes, the colours in the sunset are amazing. When I was a kid I used to call the colours in a sunset "my colours." Of course, I've learned to share them :)

  18. Awesome! Congrats on the Kindle purchase! I'm headed to the site after I leave a comment here to check it out! You look lovely! The salmon color of your blouse and your cropped jeans look so summery. Your sandals were a great steal and they look very comfortable.

  20. Anna - I know what you mean. There is nothing quite like a good book. I really think it will be great for traveling though. So far, the screen is great! No eye strain and it looks nothing like a computer screen at all.

Carly - Thank you (and thanks for sharing:)! I will definitely check out the Hunger Games.

Kimmie - Thanks! I'm really happy with the sandal purchase.

    Laura - Thanks:)

  21. I haven't been to Miss Delta yet, but I sorely need to go. That's the thing I miss about living in the South - the food. My goodness, it's just the best.

Congrats on winning your Kindle - I don't have one because I love "real" books so much, but I will probably cave and get one for traveling. They're just so practical that way.

And let me add my two cents about The Hunger Games series. Read them. They're great.

  22. This may sound strange, but I love the colors in this post! What with the sunset and your beautiful coral top, everything is so warm and lovely.

I can never quite decide how I feel about digital readers like the Kindle. I'm a Literature major, and I love the physicality of books--the way they smell, how it feels turning the pages, seeing their beautiful spines lined up on my shelves, even hugging my most beloved books to my chest after finishing them. The Kindle is *so* convenient, but I dunno...less magical? Maybe I'm just being silly. Regardless, congrats on winning yours! (I've never heard of anything like that site before!) And here's to a summer filled with lots of reading. :)
