Review of BHLDN Tracy Reese Limoncello Lace Dress

I fell in love with the Tracy Reese Limoncello Lace dress when I first saw it on the BHLDN website. I am getting married later this year and I thought this dress could be "the one". I shopped around a bit, but I kept going back to this one again and again, so I decided to order it.

The dress arrived a few days ago, and unfortunately, it is not "the one". I was immediately disappointed by the color of the dress. Based on the product shots, I was expecting a very pale yellow. IRL, the dress is a very bright greenish-yellow. The pictures below are not edited at all, but I don't think they accurately depict just how green the color is. I was shocked when I opened the package. These pictures were taken in natural light, but in indoor lighting, the color is even more harsh/bright/green.

Otherwise, the dress is very nice. The lace is beautiful and I love the back of the dress. It feels quite a bit lighter than the Spinning Lace dress - the material is thin (not in a bad way - it is lined very well) and doesn't have that super soft feel like the Spinning Lace dress does.

The fit is very similar to the Tracy Reese Spinning Lace dress, although this dress is a little bit tighter in the bust/shoulders.

Overall, I love the lace, the back of the dress, and the waist. I hate the color, and feel like the top is not flattering on me. I really wish the product shots were more accurate (color).

I believe this color is exclusive to BHLDN, but I did find this dress in pink on the Tracy Reese website (here).

Feel free to let me know if you have any specific questions about the dress.

If you know of any or see any beautiful, pale yellow, lace dresses, let me know!

  1. This is a lovely, pretty dress. The lace looks exquisite. Slightly more yellow-y than I expected though. I was expecting a softer, paler shade of yellow too. Thanks for the review!

  4. I love the dress itself and I'm so excited to see someone review a BHLDN dress, but that color? Oh no! It's like neon yellow. I'm so sorry it was't the one, but keep looking. You'll know when you find it :)

  5. It is yellow. You look amazing in it, though, and you're right-- it IS a very pretty dress.

  7. Oh dear.... yeah, that color is really not good at all. Definitely not like the picture! The design and dress itself, though, is SUPER cute. That's a bummer the color wasn't right. :(

  8. hey y'all - i took the pictures in some of THE best possible natural light (a few minutes before sunset). the nice light helped to dial down the green-ness in the photos and in real life, but it's still waaaaayyy off from the nice yellow color in the catalog photo. it should be named the Tracy Reese Ectoplasm Lace Dress.

  9. sorry it didn't work out. The dress is gorgeous but I'm not a fan of the color either. Well, the fun part is, the shopping continues . . .

  10. When I first saw this dress I also considered buying it, but the color was wrong for me. I wish they had this dress in a white or a cream. The lace and details are beautiful.

  11. what a shame! That was definitely one of my favourites from the first BHLDN launch (heh...I have to think through those letters)- they totally missed the boat on that colour. The pale, antique-y yellow as it appears is the perfect note for all that lace.

    The bodice is pretty...

  12. The lace was lovely, but that was definitely a very bright yellow - not what I expected at all. I've ooh'ed and aah'ed quite a bit over the BHLDN website I'm excited to see people review the dresses.

  13. Ack! I love T Reese. I actually love the color and the dress, just not together. Why would they even offer a color like this for bridal apparel.

Perhaps is was a dye lot mishap. And you are right about the bodice. The shape is off. Although I must say the price was not as high as I thought it would be.

I can't imagine shopping for Bridal Apparel online. That would be frustrating and costly.

  14. Thanks ladies (and Ben)! I was quite disappointed about the color, but Lisa is right - the shopping continues!!!

Terrie - I totally agree. Yes, I do remember the Laced with Grace. I remember quite a few items that were vastly different irl. It is SO frustraing.

Kim - Thank you! Yes, it is pretty much neon yellow. Not what I was expecting and not very pretty.

Sarah - Yes, a pale, antique-y yellow would be perfect! This was so disappointing.

Laura - I agree - this color does not seem very appropriate for bridal apparel. Fortunately, BHLDN shipping is not very expensive ($10 flat rate). I think BHLDN only has one B&M right now, so online it is. I definitely don't want a traditional wedding gown, so going to actual bridal shops is not going to work. I'm really not sure what I'm going to do.

  16. Aww. The dress in those product shots is so classy--such a pretty subtle, slightly dusty color. That bright scary color is quite high school homecoming. Not awesome happy wedding. It must have been very very sad to open up that package--especially considering how expensive it probably was.

Good luck on your hunt <3

  17. Ooh, I know what you're talking about with the color - what gives? It looks so pale and pretty in the catalog photo and IRL - it is almost neon. Sorry this didn't work out for you - but what did you think about the ordering experience and receipt of a BHLDN item?

  18. Lea - Not awesome happy wedding at all. Yes, I was sad and disappointed when I opened the package:( The good news is that I can easily return it and the shopping continues!

Lisa - It was just like receiving something from anthro. The dress was packaged pretty much just like all anthro items - in a clear plastic bag. In addition to the plastic bag, it was also placed in a white drawstring bag that said "BHLDN" on the front. It came in a small box. So, the white drawstring bag is a nice touch, but otherwise it was nothing special (a bit disappointing, really). I do really like the flat rate shipping ($10).

  19. Oh wow, you actually ordered and tried on this dress! That's crazy, because I pinned this dress a while ago and was considering buying it for a wedding that I have to attend in July. I'm with you - I think the dress is great, but the colour is not what I expected. Hmmm...I do like the pink version though. I'll let you know if I come across any pale yellow lace dresses. You have no idea how much I love non-traditional wedding dresses so I can't wait to see what you end up wearing :)
